1. Who we are

This Privacy Policy describes how MJ Miller Law (“the firm,” “we,” “us,” or “our”) collects, uses, and protects information in connection with the website https://mjmillerlaw.com (the “Site”).

MJ Miller Law
1855 Plumas St., Ste. 1

Phone: (775) 460-4987

MJ Miller Law is a family law practice serving Reno and Northern Nevada.

2. Scope of this policy

This policy applies to information collected through the Site and through ordinary website-related communications (for example, a consultation request, email sent from a Site link, or a phone call placed after visiting the Site).

This policy does not replace:

  • the confidentiality rules that apply after an attorney-client relationship is formed;
  • engagement letters, fee agreements, or other client documents; or
  • legal or ethical duties that apply to client files under Nevada law and the Nevada Rules of Professional Conduct.

If you become a client, information in your legal matter is handled according to those professional obligations, which are stricter than this website policy.

3. Information we collect

Information you provide

You may choose to give us information when you request a consultation, call, email, or otherwise contact the firm. That information may include:

  • name and contact details (email address, phone number, mailing address);
  • the content of your message, including facts about a potential family law matter;
  • preferred contact method or appointment availability, if requested; and
  • any documents or additional details you later send in follow-up communications.

Please do not include Social Security numbers, bank or credit card numbers, full account passwords, or other highly sensitive identifiers in a website form. The Site states that form submissions are not treated as privileged communications.

Information collected automatically

When you visit the Site, our hosting environment and any tools we use may automatically collect limited technical data, such as:

  • IP address and approximate location derived from IP;
  • browser type, device type, and operating system;
  • pages viewed, referring URL, date and time of visit; and
  • cookie identifiers and similar technical data described below.

Information from other sources

If you found the firm through a directory, review site, search engine, or referral, we may receive your name and contact details from that source when you ask them to connect you with us.

4. How we use information

We use the information we collect to:

  • respond to consultation requests and other inquiries;
  • determine whether we can consider representing you, including conflict checks;
  • schedule communications and office visits;
  • operate, secure, and improve the Site;
  • measure basic website performance (for example, which pages are visited);
  • comply with law, court orders, and professional obligations; and
  • protect the firm, our staff, and others from fraud, security threats, or misuse of the Site.

We do not use website inquiries to send bulk marketing emails unless you separately ask to receive updates. We do not sell your personal information.

5. How we share information

We may share information only as needed for the purposes above, including with:

  • Service providers who host the Site, process forms, provide email or phone systems, offer security, or supply analytics—under instructions to use the information only to perform their services;
  • Professional colleagues such as co-counsel, consultants, or staff, if needed to evaluate or respond to your inquiry;
  • Legal and regulatory authorities when required by law, court order, or professional rules; and
  • A successor if the practice is transferred, combined, or wound down, subject to continuing confidentiality duties.

We do not sell, rent, or trade personal information for advertising purposes. We do not share personal information with third parties for their own cross-context behavioral advertising.

6. Cookies, analytics, and similar technologies

The Site may use cookies and similar technologies:

  • Necessary cookies that help the Site load, keep a page session working, or remember cookie preferences;
  • Performance / analytics cookies that help us understand aggregate traffic (pages viewed, approximate location, device type). If Google Analytics or a similar tool is installed, that provider may process technical data under its own privacy policy;
  • Embedded content such as maps, fonts, or video players, which may set their own cookies.

You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings. Blocking cookies may affect how some parts of the Site work. If an analytics opt-out is available from a provider (for example, the Google Analytics opt-out browser add-on), you may use it.

The Site is not used to run third-party advertising networks. If that changes, we will update this policy.

7. How long we keep information

We keep website inquiry information only as long as needed to respond to you, complete a conflict check, and meet recordkeeping, ethics, and legal requirements.

  • If we do not form an attorney-client relationship, inquiry records are generally kept for a limited administrative period and then deleted or securely archived, unless a longer period is required.
  • If we do form an attorney-client relationship, information becomes part of the client file and is retained according to the firm’s file-retention practices and applicable professional rules.
  • Server logs and analytics data are typically kept for a shorter operational period.

8. Security

We use reasonable administrative, technical, and physical safeguards appropriate for a small law-firm website, including access limits on staff who need the information to do their work. No website or email transmission is completely secure. That is one reason we ask visitors not to send highly sensitive identifiers through the public form.

Nevada law (including NRS Chapter 603A) imposes duties regarding certain personal information. If a security incident involving personal information requires notice under applicable law, we will provide that notice as required.

9. Your choices and rights

You may:

  • ask us what personal information we have from a website inquiry;
  • ask us to correct inaccurate contact details;
  • ask us to delete a website inquiry, subject to legal and ethical retention duties;
  • opt out of non-essential cookies in your browser; and
  • decline to submit a form and contact us by phone instead.

Nevada residents may have additional rights under Nevada law regarding the sale of covered information. We do not sell covered information as that term is used in Nevada’s privacy statutes. To make a request, contact us using the details below and include “Privacy Request” in the subject line. We may need to verify that the request comes from the person whose information is involved.

If you are a California resident visiting the Site, you may also request to know, delete, or correct personal information we collected from you online, and you may ask us not to sell or share that information. We do not sell or share personal information for cross-context behavioral advertising. We will not discriminate against you for exercising privacy rights.

10. Children

The Site is intended for adults seeking information about family law services. We do not knowingly collect personal information online from children under 13. If you believe a child submitted information through the Site, contact us and we will delete it.

The Site may link to other websites (for example, legal resources, directories, or our web designer). Those sites have their own privacy practices. This policy does not cover them.

12. Changes to this policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. The “Last updated” date at the top will change when we do. The current version will be posted on this page. Continued use of the Site after an update means the revised policy applies to information collected after that date.
